                 Chennai lies on the south - east coast of India. It faces the bay of bengal. It is an important port. Till 1996,chennai was called madras. the ci changed its name to chennai to chennai. A long time ago,madras was a group of villages surrounded by rice fields.the areas was ruled by different ruler at different times. many traders came her to by and sell  goods because of it location on the coast. today chennai is the capital of tamil nadu. As chennai capital, The offices of the state government are located here. 

 Chennai has the  a good network of transport system . it well -connected to different parts of country through roads way ,railway ,water ways and airways. the international airport of chennai  known as Anna durai airport .  

chennai is the first city in india  to have a  mumicipal corparation. Kanyakumari,the soputhern most mainland of india ,is not far away from Chennai . people visit this to enjoy its sunset and sunrise . 

Climate = chennai is warm and humid throughout the year. however, sea breezes give people some relief from warm weather. chennai receives   maximum rain in winter.
