                     SOLAR SYSTEM

The solar system: Facts about our cosmic neighborhood | Live Science

The solar system consists of the sun, the eight planet, satellites, comets and asteroids. It is said to be some 4.6 billion year old. but how did the solar system form . It is believed that the sun and the rest of the solar system formed from a huge swirling cloud of dust and gas called nebula. As this giant cloud rotated, a  small star began to from at the centre. The star grew larger and larger as it collected  more and more of the dust and gas .It eventually ignited forming our sun .Farther away from the centre ,there were smaller clumps of dust and gas which became the planet ,minor planet ,moons ,comet and asteroids.

Everything in the solar system orbits or revolves around the sun .T he sun;s powerful gravity attracts all the objects in the solar system towards it.All the objects in the solar system which are moving at great speeds ,try to fly away from the sun ,outwards into the emptiness of outer space . However ,the suns pulls them inwards . So, they become trapped in between .In the process   of moving outwards and being pulled inwards, they remain in their place, orbiting the sun.
